KAUER-MAZDA LAVAL
JET & ATOMISING DESUPERHEATER
Kauer-Mazda Laval Jet and
atomising desuperheater (patent pending)
mark a major advancement in the design technology
of desuperheaters for power application,
process steam in industrial plants etc.
These
units create very high velocities and turbulence
to help mix the cooling liquid and vapours
enabling desuperheating to take place instantaneously.
Cooling liquid (water) is passed into a
preheating chamber around the steam laval
jet and is injected through a series of
small jets thereby assisting atomisation
by the high pressure steam passing at super
critical velocity through the laval jet.
This mist-like fluid is further sheared
at the exit by the stripping action of the
accelerated high pressure steam which also
passes through the holes of engineered sizes
entering the exit annulus. The resultant
pattern of discharge has the water particles
surrounded by a sheath of steam so that
no contact is made with the steam main walls
ensuring maximum operational effectiveness
with no pipeline erosion.
Because of Laval jet and
atomising effect of the exit annulus these
desuperheaters will operate successfully
at quite low velocities of line-steam flow,
although when the main steam flow fall to
a very low point the atomising steam is
constantly flowing when the desuperheater
is in use, therefore the atomising process
is fully effective at all loads down to
the lowest rate of injection of cooling
water. The characteristic however, is very
different from that of the other desuperheaters,
nearly all of which depend on turbulent
high velocity to make up, by rapid evaporation
for an inevitable percentage of large droplets.
Thus Kauer-Mazda laval jet and atomising
desuperheaters offer a high rangeability
even on low steam velocities.
High rangeability with
an effective maximum turndown ratio of 33:1
Good reliability since
there are no moving parts.
Easy installation and
can be mounted in any position.
Narrow configuration and
therefore pressure drop in steam main is
negligible.
Very high rangeability
of 50:1 can also be achieved by providing
a modulating steam atomising control valve
synchronised with the main valve.
Sizes : 2" to 48"
Rangeability : 50:1
Rating : Upto ANSI 2500#
Atomising Steam Pressure : 1.4 times the
steam operating pressure.
Atomising Steam Flow : Cooling water can
be fed even lower than the steam operating
pressure
